What little boy doesn't want to be like his hero, his daddy? My little grandson loves his daddy so much! He gets so excited when he sees Daddy pulling into the driveway in his work truck. So, for his birthday I decided to make him a truck just like Daddy's. Well, close enough!
I bought him a new Little Tikes Cozy CoupeŽ. It's a cute molded plastic toy that little ones can actually climb inside and pretend drive. It has a handle on the top so parents can push them in it.
I was thinking right off that it needed to have a yellow light on top just like Daddy's truck. What on earth could I use to make a yellow light? I was shopping at Walmart for ice cube trays and sitting there on a shelf right in front of me, bathed in radiant beams from heaven, was a lemon keeper! It was PERFECT! How often does that happen? It was yellow plastic with an opaque bottom and transparent top. I just scotch taped the two halves together so it wouldn't come apart during play time. I used 3M double-stick foam tape to stick it to the top of the cozy coupe.
The next thing it needed was the company name on the door just like Daddy's truck has. Also at Walmart, I found stick-on letters in the scrap book supplies. They didn't have white, I wanted a high contrast, so I bought silver sparkly. I know, it's not very manly, but it worked! The letters have stayed on very well, and have already weathered much play time.
As you can see, it's been a big hit with our little guy. Daddy seems pretty proud to have a chip-off-the-ol'-block as well! (Don't tell the little guy, but he's getting a little hard hat and safety vest for Easter, so he can dress like Daddy too!)
I thought about taking it a step further and putting a blinking LED battery operated light in the lemon keeper. I'm pretty sure I've seen them at the $1 store. I decided against it as it could be a choking hazard.
So here you have it, a cheap easy Cozy CoupeŽ Conversion. The possibilities are endless! Little Tikes makes a pink Cozy Coupe for girls. Just think of the fun you could have fixing it up! (I saw a pink hard hat on Amazon!)
